What's Goin' on in my Studio, My Head...

A quick oil study of roses from the farmers market we go to every Saturday morning in Pukalani, Maui. They come from Tiki rose farm and their tent is filled with glorious roses every weekend - a site to behold! I bring home a few most every week.

Been spending a couple of weeks working on signs for La'akea Village in Pa'ia, Maui. My sweet daughter is one of the clients there and it's the best place on earth for people with special needs. They're out doors in sunshine and fresh air much of the time - with incredible ocean views. They garden and cook beautiful vegetarian meals every day. There are animals, ducks and chickens etc... etc... Anyway - I cannot possibly do enough for this outstanding group of professionals who serve these beautiful people. In a couple of weeks I'll be able to post several pics per post so I'll be able to post work flow for processes. Hasta -

These are the studies described in the last post. Just very quick images created from a simple small black and white print of the photo reference. These are more about color than composition.

These lovely fowl strut their stuff on one of my walk routs here on Maui. It's not a large watercolor but it was so much fun to paint - haven't done a watercolor in quite some time. It's painted on cotton illustration board. I used cadmium yellow, gold ochre, sepia, lunar black, cobalt and verditer blues, quinacridone sienna, scarlet lake, Pyrrol red, and a teeny bit of turquoise. Oh - and a bit of ultramarine blue and perylene green too.
For the color studies I made a small black and white print and cheap, light weight copy paper. I put graphite on the back and went over the lines of the major fowl with ball point pen 3 times in my sketchbook to make quick quick drawings to explore color on. I liked the warm one the best.
